montreux (CH): lac léman
arriving in montreux was quite something. there are cast iron statues of all the famous jazz, and other, singers that have graced this city with their presence. we stayed in an obviously quite elite hotel (back in the day) overlooking the lake. it was incredible, watching the change in weather sweeping passed us, the party parts embarking and disembarking and of course, one cannot forget the soekie-soekie dancing going on nearby. quite a sight, needless to say.
we dined in a deliciously mmm italian restaurant, eating fagottini filled with shavings of black truffles, cappacio and montreux red wine. a fabulous night was had by all -
chateau de chillon (CH)/ lake geneva
just before reaching montreux (the jazz haven in the month of july), we stopped over at this magnificant castle, built in 1536.
yvoire (FR)/ lake geneva
escaping a rainy chambéry, we headed north-east to lake geneva, otherwise known as lac léman. we started the "swiss tour" on the french side, with yvoire. noted as one of the most beautiful villages in france. it's a lovely 14th century medival village, littered with bright flowers...and of course, tourists. we meandered through thonon-les-bains and evian before going into switzerland.
